Push NIST (and cloud), Google urges governments on quantum crypto threat
Google is lobbying policymakers to unite behind the NIST post-quantum cryptography approach, and to get serious about critical infrastructure before Q-Day.
Google – a serious contender for bringing about Q-Day – on Friday urged policymakers everywhere to get involved in post-quantum preparations, and threw its weight behind the standards put forward by America's NIST.
Google is "on track to complete a PQC migration safely within NIST’s current guidelines," global affairs VP Kent Walker said, adding PQC is being rolled out "within our infrastructure for internal operations and products."
The US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) started releasing post-quantum cryptography (PQC) standards in August 2024.
